Tom Shelton: What the Folk Art?
June 5 - July 25, 2015
Tom Shelton is a self-taught artist who works mainly with found objects. Shelton has spent years cultivating his art through sculpture, with special attention given to fashioning his little creatures with objects ranging from teapots, forks to candlestick holders. His passion for antiques, rust, and relics of the past, combined with his attention to detail, allow him to create works that shine a light on objects that would otherwise be on their way to the landfill. His assemblage is done mostly with nuts and bolts, giving a lasting structure to his piece. His inspiration comes from the natural distress of the materials he uses, as well as the cyclic patterns found in nature.
